Different Types Of Hijama Cups and Their Uses.

A few different types of cups are used for various types of cupping therapy.

Different types of cupping therapy can be performed with different cupping materials. Four different types of cupping materials are used to perform cupping therapy.

  • Plastic Cups
  • Silicon Cups
  • Glass Cups
  • Bamboo Cups

Plastic cups

Plastic cups are the most used cups for different cupping therapies. They can be used for wet, dry, fixed, flash, and bio-magnetic cupping treatment. Polyethylene terephthalate is used for disposable plastic cups because it is strong and long-lasting. This material is easy to recycle. Furthermore, because they are compostable, they are environment friendly.

The pressure of the cups can be controlled by an electric or a hand suction gun. They are affordable and disposable cups. Plastic cups are available in different sizes. Small-size cups are easy to apply on the head, feet or arms. As disposable, the use-and-throw method can perfectly fit hygiene issues. Plastic cups are used for one-time use only. They should not be boiled as they lose their shape in warm water.

Silicon Cups

Like plastic cups, silicon cups are also one of the most used for several kinds of cupping therapies. They are mostly used for face cupping therapy and moving cupping therapy.

Silicone cups are formed from expensive food-grade silicon. Silicon is a substance that resembles synthetic rubber and is renowned for its heat resistance, durability, and flexibility. It is frequently used in various applications, from medical devices to kitchen utensils.

Before using them apply oil or lotion on the targetted area. Squeeze the cup to secure the pressure, and apply it on the skin, which is required to create a negative pressure. After Obtaining pressure, slide the cups back and forth, right and left to stimulate the tissues deeply. Silicon cups are mostly used for face cupping therapy. It helps to improve blood circulation and relax facial muscles. Silicon cups are easy to use. They can be found in different sizes. To clean, wash them in hot water with an anti-bacterial liquid.

Glass Cups

For centuries, glass cups have been used in TCM (Traditional Chinese Medicine). The glass cups are made of transparent, thick glass. The glass cups come in a variety of sizes according to your needs. The transparency of the glass allows the practitioner to notify the skin colour which affects the healing process. Glass cups are used to perform fire cupping therapy. This therapy involves putting a flammable substance in the interior of the glass cup before placing it on the skin. The vacuum creates a suction, causing the skin to rise, which helps to stimulate blood flow, loosen tight muscles and promote the flow of vital energy Qi. Glass cups are also used for acupuncture to target the acupressure points on the body to relieve muscular pains.

The glass cups often leave circular marks on the skin, but marks fade away in a couple of days. Glass cups are mostly reusable, so they should be sanitized and cleaned properly. Excessive body hair weakens the suction so better to remove hair from the targetted area where the glass cups are being placed. As glass material, these cups are easy to break. They should be used with caution.

Bamboo Cups

Bamboo cups are mostly used in China. They are made from natural bamboo trees. Unlike glass cups, they are lightweight and easy to carry and use. They are inexpensive and durable. They are used for fire cupping therapy. The only demerit of bamboo cups is that when a flammable substance is applied inside the cup, its sharp edges cause discomfort and pain. Bamboo cups are reusable but the sterilization process is difficult to handle.

Bamboo cups can also be used for different types of dry cupping therapy. Bamboo cups are boiled in the water and then directly applied on the skin after cooling down the edges of the bamboo cups. The warmth of the cup creates the suction inside the cup. The colour of the skin can not be seen through bamboo cups so the estimated time should be between three to five minutes. Place the fingers at the edges of the cup and gently pull the bamboo cup out. This kind of dry cupping releases tension from muscles and boosts the circulation of the blood.

Different types of cups impact the result of cupping therapy differently. Plastic cups and silicon cups are the most used types of cups nowadays. Bamboo cups and glass cups are mostly used in China. Overall they are not that famous anymore.
